Last Post Productions is a New Zealand-based screen production company which specialises in film and television for the socially curious.
Working from their base in Auckland, Last Post Productions produces films of social interest to critical viewers around the world, while also offering services in film production and management to external filmmaking teams.
Last Post Productions is currently in production on Ngquaza: Be Still! - a documentary about one woman’s surprising contribution to post-Apartheid South Africa.
Ngquaza: Be Still! explores the ‘Bessie “Ngquaza” Hechter’ phenomenon – how a White woman in her 70s ended up living the majority of her life as a trading station shopkeeper in a remote, rural village on the Wild Coast of South Africa; and why she, this last and intrepid pillar of colonial debris, still remains. The film follows her solitary and often lonely resistance to what a nation declares to be the “normal” and “right” way to live. Capturing a moment in South African history that is on the verge of extinction, this is an absorbing meditation on race, history, alienation, loneliness and the power and glory of nostalgia.
